There is one gift that just about every husband really wants. And it's probably not what you think. The neck-ties are great, the artwork from the kids is cute (really!), and the new electronics are fun. But we actually want something more.
Remember when you were dating and you did everything together? You watched all the games, joined all the hikes, and tagged along for all the adventures. We loved that. Like REALLY loved that. Woman are generally hard-wired to bond face-to-face. This is why most women love to grab coffee or a meal with their friends. It's also why they love the long, uninterrupted dinners with their husband, where deep conversations happen (PS- I'm not sure I even remember what 'uninterrupted' feels like #DadTired). But the truth is, guys don't bond face-to-face. We bond shoulder-to-shoulder. This means we actually feel most connected with you when we're doing something, not when we're talking about something. It's in our wiring. It's the reason we don't see Jesus meeting once a week with his disciples over coffee. But instead, we find him teaching as he walks, talks, and fishes. It's the 'shoulder-to-shoulder' kind of stuff. If you want to speak your husband's love language this Father's Day, don't just buy him something. Do something. Go on a hike, sit next to him as the two of you watch a game, grab a fishing pole, go bowling. The options are endless. I promise you it will mean more to him than you realize. _ Have you seen this devotional for men? |
